Have you ever seen a Kerry Hill sheep?? As soon as I laid eyes on this amazing flock belonging to Yvonne in Darwen, I immediately consulted my Fleece & Fibre book to check out their woolly properties! A Welsh hill sheep, they have distinctive black panda eye and nose markings and little black knee pads!! I was intrigued as I hadn’t seen any pure Kerry Hill yarn and their fleeces were beautiful, softer than you would expect for a hill breed. They were once on the rare breed list but thankfully they’re making a comeback!
I couldn’t believe it when the yarn came back from the mill, a worsted spun 4 ply, nearly pure white and so bouncy it’s almost elastic! A single farm yarn this is small batch and limited edition. I was thrilled when RiverKnits agreed to hand dye some exclusively for the Yarndale launch. Becci has dyed up gorgeous semi solids and our special Northern Yarn colourway; The Moor & The Merrier!
