New Year Dissolutions

January 2017!!!! I’m not going to say ‘how did that happen?’ or ‘I’m glad it’s over for another year’ because 1) we all know how it happened and 2) I’m not glad. I’d quite happily snack and knit myself through another two weeks thank you very much! Minus the sick bug that struck on New Year Day at 3:30am; bringing in the New Year with an engulfment of vomit was not my idea of fun, nor my daughter’s poor mite. (It’s ALWAYS in OUR bed, I think my husband had smelled a rat and had silently removed himself to sleep in another room!)

I usually make a vague attempt to be a bit healthier in January, eat and drink less, etc, but this year I fulfilled all that by cooking quinoa for the first time, making a Warm Halloumi Salad (that was really nice, exceeding my – albeit low – expectations!) And I did this on NYE! No waiting for the New Year for me, I felt so snug and cleansed that I decided I could forego the giving wine up and have enjoyed a glass every night since. I’ve even made brown rice and a roasted veg lasagne so that should keep me in wine for the next week too. Chin chin!

Wool News

I'm delighted to share news that I have commissioned the wonderful Alitzah Grant from Of Blithe Spirit to design a wrap with Northern Yarn DK; Poll Dorset & BFL blend. I’ve seen the plans and the progress and can confirm it is looking gorgeous. Alitzah is a complete expert when it comes to wool and yarn and working with wool with provenance is as important to her as it is to me. I’m honoured that Alitzah agreed to work with my wool; I wanted a design that would retain and enhance the wool’s character; natural, honest and traditional, but with a modern twist. Alitzah is working her magic and I’m massively excited to see it finished. I will keep you updated and let you know when the pattern is available, check out Alitzah here:

I also have to share that the talented Angela Gardner has hand dyed a small amount of Northern Yarn 4 ply in Poll Dorset  lambswool. I love the colour ways Angela has chosen, especially ‘Rhubarb & Custard’. Again these are very limited editions, available online now and on my market stall from next Wednesday 11th January. A shawl in Rhubarb & Custard is on my list for January!
