We're very excited to welcome 'Beara' by Hey Mama Wolf – a yarn as mystical and powerful as the nature of Ireland!
I recently read a book (Hagitude by Sharon Blackie) who talked frequently about the namesake of this yarn, the "Cailleach Bhéarra" or "Hag of Beara," who is a figure in Irish mythology and folklore. She is often depicted as an ancient, powerful goddess or wise woman deeply connected to the Irish landscape and the cycles of nature. We think she probably knows a thing or two about sheep and wool!
Beara is made from Irish wool and UK alpaca and it's spun in Ireland at the traditional Donegal Yarns mill. Small sheep farms, in particular, often struggle to sell their wool profitably so Beara is spun from the wool of different breeds to help support more Irish farmers.
I'm thinking cables and more cables and once enveloped in a jumper or cardigan I will hopefully invoke the wisdom and attitude of the Cailleach Bhéarra!
