Wednesday 1st, 8th & 22nd July 2026 6pm - 8pm

We LOVE knitting socks and even more than that, we want you to love knitting them too! Join Ruth & I as we guide you through making your first pair; cuff down with a heel flap and gusset! This is a 3 part class!

Skills required: This is a beginner class. Participants should be comfortable knitting and purling. Experience with decreasing and working in the round is desirable, but not required.

Techniques covered: Methods for small circumference knitting; stretchy cast on appropriate for sock cuffs; how to turn a heel; how to pick up stitches; grafting/kitchener stitch; picking appropriate yarn for socks.

What you’ll leave with: A finished boot sock, with a sock pattern and lots of information and resources for where you can refresh the skills we’ve gone over as needed.

The class will be divided into three sessions;

Wednesday 1st July 6pm - 8pm

Class 1: Introduction to sock knitting; methods for knitting small circumferences in the round (magic loop, two circulars, short circulars, DPNs); intro to methods for stretchy cast on (German long tail and Jenny’s surprisingly stretchy). We will cast on our socks, work cuffs and begin work on the legs. At the end of the session, students will learn how to work a slip stitch heel flap.

Wednesday 8th July 6pm - 8pm

Class 2: Turning a heel and picking up gusset stitches. Between Class 1 and 2, participants should complete their sock leg and ideally their heel flap. In this session, we’ll make sure our heel flaps are complete, turn our heels, and begin picking up our gusset stitches.

Wednesday 22nd July 6pm - 8pm

Class 3: Toe Decreasing + Finishing your sock. In this session, we’ll briefly cover toe decreases, then we’ll teach you how to graft your toe together, how to weave in ends, and how to block, wash, and care for your hand knit socks. We’ll also talk about great “next step” sock projects and talk about picking the right yarn for your next socks!

Materials you will need:

1 x 150g ball West Yorkshire Spinners DK - please come and talk to use about recommended yarns

1 x 3.5mm circular needle, e.g. Addi sock wonder (25cm), ChiaoGoo shortie interchangeable/23cm, or a long circular with at least 30” cable OR 1 set of DPNs

A tapestry needle

There will be 10% discount for materials needed for this course and for any purchases you make during the class.

Please note: We will only be able to issue a refund if we can fill your space (which we'll do our best to do)

The class will take place upstairs up one flight of stairs - there is also 1 step up to the shop. Please let us know if this will be a problem.
